Charter schools are public schools and any student who qualifies under the admission to a public school is qualified for admission to a charter school. A public charter school shall not discriminate against any student on the basis of ethnicity, national origin, gender, or disability.
 
NC Charter Schools comply with the Federal and State Constitutions and all applicable federal laws and regulations, including, but not limited to, such laws and regulations governing employment, environment, disabilities, civil rights, children with special needs, transportation, and student records. NC Charter Schools comply with all applicable health and safety laws and regulations, whether federal, state, or local.

Specifically, NC law is consistent with the following:

• Age Discrimination Act of 1975;
• Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964;
• Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972;
• Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973;
• The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990;
• Section 444 of the General Education Provisions Act; and
• Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
