Applications received after the lottery will continue to be accepted and processed in the order received, with applicants either admitted or placed on the waitlist based on seat availability.

Enrollment Information

All students must reside with their legal guardian within the state of North Carolina in one of the following counties: Buncombe, McDowell, Henderson, Haywood, Transylvania, Rutherford, Yancey, Madison.
Spark Learning Center is a public school of choice and abides by all North Carolina charter school laws.
Completing the application does not ensure enrollment. If applications exceed available enrollment space, students are entered into a lottery and drawn at random.
As allowed by state law, Spark gives priority to children of staff and faculty, students who attended ArtSpace Charter School, siblings of currently enrolled students, siblings of graduates that completed four or more years at the school, siblings applying for the first time in the same year, and children of board members who have served for at least one year.

Families interested in both Spark and ArtSpace need to complete separate applications. Both schools have separate lotteries and rosters. Students may be enrolled in only one school.

Charter schools are public schools and any student who qualifies under the admission to a public school is qualified for admission to a charter school. A public charter school shall not discriminate against any student on the basis of ethnicity, national origin, gender, or disability.

NC Charter Schools comply with the Federal and State Constitutions and all applicable federal laws and regulations, including, but not limited to, such laws and regulations governing employment, environment, disabilities, civil rights, children with special needs, transportation, and student records. NC Charter Schools comply with all applicable health and safety laws and regulations, whether federal, state, or local.

Specifically, NC law is consistent with the following:

• Age Discrimination Act of 1975;
• Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964;
• Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972;
• Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973;
• The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990;
• Section 444 of the General Education Provisions Act; and
• Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
