Academic Support
Each Student Success Plan outlines individual strengths, interests, skills, and needs. Not only are the in-person sessions based on this information, but it is used to support students through multiple areas of student growth. After all, we believe that school should engage our natural curiosities, build confidence, and support academic growth across subject areas.
Spark supports all learners and ensures support with a number of strategies:
-
- In-person sessions - Scheduled with students and families, these sessions may include small group work with teacher and peers, facilitated work sessions, tutoring, or work with specialized support staff.
- Advanced coursework - In areas where students show above-average, exemplary achievement, advanced high school coursework is available.
- Intervention - Using a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS), teachers monitor student progress and provide intervention when needed. Our Student Support Team meets weekly with teachers to review student performance and coordinate services.
- Formative Assessments - In a low-pressure environment, students complete NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments multiple times per year. These benchmark assessments measure growth in reading and math.
- Available Support Services - The Student Support Team develops solutions for students facing barriers to instruction, which may include arranging additional on-campus learning sessions for eligible students. Families can request individualized conferences at any time.
