Encore Quarter 2 Classes and Clubs
Slam Poetry Club (Grades 5–8)
Slam poetry is performance-based, spoken-word poetry — an outlet for aspiring wordsmiths to explore self-expression, creativity, and authentic connection with their audience. In this club, students will learn the art of writing and performing their own original slam poems. Each week we’ll build skills through free writing, editing, performance practice, and constructive feedback. Students will also watch videos of other youth slam poets and discover the history of slam — including Asheville’s own important role in shaping the national movement. The series will culminate in a live student poetry slam in the ArtSpace theater, where participants will share their work in a fun, high-energy competition.
